If you wear #hair weave, extensions or #lace wigs you can save a ton of money if you bypass the middle man and start purchasing your #hair products directly from the manufacturer. Most re-sellers mark their hair products up 2 -4 times their cost so just imagine how much you will save if you start shopping smarter by going straight to the source. For example, one 3.5oz bundle of virgin (unprocessed) Brazilian hair at retail will easily set you back $125. It generally takes 2-3 bundles for a complete weave depending on how full of a look you want. So you’re looking at hair cost of $250 – $325. Buy your hair directly from the manufacturer and you can slash this cost in half.
So the question then becomes “How do I know which manufacturer to buy from?”
Let’s tackle that question… Regardless of where you currently buy your products, whether it be an online hair shop, your neighborhood beauty supply store or your favorite hair salon…99% of the time the products have come from a China based hair manufacturer. It doesn’t matter if the hair is labeled Indian, Brazilian, Malaysian, Mongolian, European, etc.; your supplier is getting it from a China based manufacturer.
These manufacturers can all be found on Alibaba. In case you are not familiar with Alibaba, it is the largest eCommerce company in the world (bigger than eBay and Amazon combined). It is also the most comprehensive directory that connects suppliers (mostly from Asia) with buyers from all over the world. Alibaba is free to use, you simply register and then you can search for suppliers and contact them for more information. However, there is an easier way…
Alibaba has a sister consumer retail site called Aliexpress. On Aliexpress the manufacturer’s product and shipping info is laid out on the site and you can pay for your purchase using Paypal.
If you have never ordered from an overseas vendor before do not let that scare you. I have heard stories from people who have had both good and bad experiences ordering from suppliers on Aliexpress. The key to having a good experience is of course ordering from the right manufacturer. The problem with that is there are a ton of hair manufacturers on Aliexpress, some great and some terrible. So how do you know the good ones from the bad ones? Your favorite hair supplier is certainly not going to voluntarily give up their good sources. So this is going to take some due diligence in the beginning on your part. You may not ever discover the exact manufacturer your supplier uses but there are certainly other manufacturers who may offer hair that is just as good if not better quality than what you are used to. A few things you want to check for when searching for top quality manufacturers are:
- How long has the company been in business
- What is the company’s store feedback rating?
- Does the company have a return/refund policy
All of the above information can be found on the company’s store product page on Aliexpress. You will only want to buy from established sellers that have been in business for at least 3 years and who have excellent feedback ratings. Stores are independently rated on a scale of 1-5 by Aliexpress based on the feedback received from customers.
I have set up a Supplier page on this blog in which I will post some of the top rated hair vendors on Aliexpress. I will try to keep this list updated on a regular bases.
